Get Fit for AI – Devolve Your Tech Teams into the Business

Is your tech organisation still trying to deliver large programmes of work? They say they’re Agile — but spend a lot of time PI planning in 3-month cycles. Is this really the future?

Absolutely not.

Not as we move towards an AI-centric world (and no — I’m not using the word “Agentic”; it’s misquoted more often than not!). Picture what’s coming:

You describe your business problem to an AI assistant. It builds the solution. Seamlessly integrated into your workflow. You pivot — the toolset adapts instantly.

In that future, traditional delivery teams as we know them become far less relevant. The age of humans developing code piece by piece — interpreting requirements, building interfaces, validating functionality — will be significantly reduced. That’s rework and friction eliminated.

But here’s the issue

Today’s delivery models aren’t built for this. We still rely on layers of translation — from business to tech and back again. Teams are made up of Product Owners, Analysts, Scrum Masters, Testers, and Delivery Managers — all working hard to deliver safely, efficiently, and at scale. But often, they’re optimised for governance and reuse, not speed or alignment with business needs.

And over time, delivery teams drift further from the coalface. So, what should we do now, knowing that future is coming — but not quite here yet?

It’s time to rethink your model

You don’t need to wait for AI to mature before making change.
Start by devolving your central tech capability into the business. Distribute small, multi-skilled teams (5–10 people) into each business function. Give them space to build domain understanding, create targeted solutions, and respond rapidly as needs evolve.Done right, this isn’t chaos — it’s clarity.

Agile tools and practices have been around for 20 years. We just need to apply them in a different context: one where business and tech sit side-by-side. And if your tech teams don’t build those relationships now — how will they become the AI conductors, orchestrators, and prompt engineers of the future?

We’ve done it

It’s not always easy — but it works. And the results come faster than you might expect.
Smarter solutions. Deeper alignment. And a workforce that’s truly preparing for the AI-powered world.

We’ve helped clients take the first steps — and we’re happy to share how.

If you’re serious about getting fit for AI, let’s start the conversation.
